Maintenance tips

Water deep. Not daily.

June 11, 2026 · 4 min read

Most Northeast Ohio lawns are watered wrong. Deep, infrequent watering builds roots that survive August — light daily watering does the opposite.

Roots follow water

A short daily sprinkle keeps moisture in the top inch of soil, so roots stay shallow and the lawn wilts the first hot week. One inch of water, once or twice a week, pulls roots down where the soil stays cool.

Water early

Between 5am and 9am the wind is low and the blades dry before evening, which keeps fungal disease off the lawn.

Measure it once

Set a tuna can on the lawn and time how long your sprinkler takes to fill it an inch. Now you know your number, and you never have to guess again.
